The War on Expertise Is Putting All of Us in Danger

There’s something deeply dangerous happening in America right now — and it’s not getting the attention it deserves.

Bit by bit, brick by brick, this administration is tearing down the very institutions that keep us safe. Public health. Disaster response. Environmental protection. Science itself. And it's happening with shocking speed and ruthless intent.

Silencing the Experts

Diseases we once had under control are back. Measles is surging. Mpox cases are climbing. Bird flu is creeping closer to human transmission. And what’s the federal response?

Silence. Misinformation. Denial.

The CDC, FDA, and NIH — our frontline agencies for health — have been ordered to stop talking to the public. No alerts, no data, no coordination. The same agencies that kept us informed during COVID are now being gagged. Scientists are being fired. Studies canceled. Lifesaving data deleted.

We now know that the CDC buried its own forecast warning that the risk of measles infection was high in communities with low vaccination rates. The agency was fully prepared to release the information publicly — until leadership, reportedly under pressure from the HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., pulled the plug at the last moment.

And with that suppression came a shift in messaging. The CDC, once a fierce champion of vaccination, now parrots Kennedy's line: "The decision to vaccinate is a personal one." That’s not a neutral statement. That’s how you launder conspiracy rhetoric into official policy.

Meanwhile, Kennedy has spent his tenure downplaying the threat of measles, pushing vitamins and supplements as alternatives to vaccines, and promoting fringe doctors claiming "miraculous recoveries" using cod liver oil. The CDC even added vitamin A to its website in response — while local doctors scrambled to stop parents from poisoning their children with overdoses.

Public Health in Freefall

And the crisis goes far beyond disease.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) — the agency that tracks storms, climate data, and ocean health — has seen hundreds of weather forecasters and experts fired. There’s open talk of shutting down FEMA. The Environmental Protection Agency is being gutted. Experts on pollution, toxic exposure, and environmental risk are being shown the door.

So what happens when the next wildfire rages? When a hurricane hits the Gulf Coast? When toxic chemicals spill into drinking water? Who’s left to warn us? Who’s left to act?

When Disaster Strikes, Who’s Left?

The image above says it plainly: the war on expertise is putting all of us in danger. When scientists are silenced, when data disappears, when ideologues are installed where professionals once stood — people die. It’s that simple.

We saw this play out in real time during COVID. Trump ignored the experts. Mocked masks. Pushed junk cures. The result? Over a million dead Americans and the worst pandemic response of any developed nation. And now he’s doing it again — only faster, and more destructively.
